Sacred Greek Temple Dances and the Dance of the Living Word
A 3, 5, or 7-day workshop
Picture the great temples of the ancient Greek civilizations: great, high-roofed buildings of painted stone. Imagine the ancient amphitheaters, huge, semi-circular open air settings under the blue of the southern sky. There the great cultures of yore danced their sacred rhythmic dances, which sought to create balance between heaven and earth. A hallmark of the Greek dances were their rhythmic patterns, alternating long and short beats which mirrored the alternating experiences of cosmic and earthly consciousness. These rhythms were also reflected in Greek poetry: echoes are still found in the rhythms of modern language. Dance with us the pulsing rhythms of the classical Greek period, as you explore how you are woven of the power of the macrocosmos and microcosmos. Learn how the goddess Athena showed humanity how to dance the sacred power of the Logos, and how her mysteries are reborn in Eurythmy.
The Wisdom of the Stars and the Dance of the Living Word
A 5 day workshop with Brian Gray and Cynthia Hoven
Brian Gray, who has been teaching Astrosophy and reading star charts for 30 years, will join Cynthia in this in-depth course to study how we are born out of and stand in relationship to the planets and constellations. Correspondences will be taught, discussed and danced. We will learn about the qualities, colors, virtues, physiology, and movements of the planets. We will become familiar with the starry heaven through evening star-gazing. We will learn how every vowel is related to a planet, and every consonant is related to a constellation. When we speak, we articulate the language of the spheres. When we do Eurythmy, we dance the movements of the cosmic language.
The Dance of the Living Word and Healing: Therapeutic Eurythmy
A 3, 5, or 7-day workshop
Our bodies are the garments of our souls and spirits. The sense-perceptible body is but the outer garment for a host of subtle bodies. Each organ, each structure has its own formative force, its own color, its own sound. Because we are born out of the cosmos, when we are truly healthy our bodies are in harmony with the relationships and harmonies of the cosmos. When we are stressed, tired, computer-weary, machine-dead, we need to revive our depleted forces, and bring them back into relationship with the forces of the cosmos. Our healing will occur by rediscovering a relationship to our bodies. Your spirit will know itself as the originator of your movement. You will know that as long as you are in this body you stand in relationship to the dimensions of the cross: above, below, right, left, front back, outside, inside. You will spread your aura into this space and strengthen your life forces by breathing quietly and peacefully. You will relearn how to walk, upright and in balance. You will then learn to open your heart and let its strength flow out into your arms as you create with them the gestures for the different sounds of speech, each of which brings to you its own character and particular healing energy. You will learn exercises which you can practice every day in your own living space at home.
